                   In the Air Today

The winds of Autumn are blowing today
On the face of a man
Who has a little more faith
Than he did a few years ago
For without faith we are lost, and the world is empty.
We all need something to believe in.
We all need someone to believe in.

The winds of winter are howling today
On the face of a man
Who has learned to stand in the harsh cold
     And survive again and again
For without strength we are lost, and the world is empty.
We all need to stand up for ourselves.
We all need to stand up for someone else.

The winds of spring can be felt today
On the face of a man
Who welcomes the sun's rays with all his heart
That warm illumination to chase the darkness away
For without this light we are lost, and the world is empty.
We all need a shoulder to cry on.
We all need to offer a shoulder to cry on.

The winds of summer are blowing today
On the face of a man
Who is glad to feel the gentle warmth again
A feeling that can hardly be described
For without love we are lost, and the world is empty.
We all need to care for someone.
We all need someone to care for us.

     And then...it was Autumn again...

And the wind was still blowing, as it always had
Bringing each new smell, thought, and feeling to him
Still the same, but somehow a little different
For it now blew on a face that had a few more lines
One that had felt the wind...so many times before
A bit older...a bit more tired..but still full of hope...
Tempered by love, cooled by wisdom.
