A Kings Tail
On black ebony wings you fly,
Your evil shadow scars the sky.
Burning flesh to eat the meat,
Your last meal lays at my feet.
Two years, three months, and
half a week,
My quest's you evil lair to seek.
Upon the mountain I see thy cave,
Inside its heart will be your grave.
As I hide to watch and wait,
I start to ponder my awesome fate.
Because of you I've lost it all,
'Twas you who caused my kingdoms fall.
You roamed my land in search of prey,
Haunting the night while in bed I lay.
My army was useless against one like you,
You killed them all with flames you spew.
I was forced to watch, due to my rank,
And as you killed, my heart it sank..
Good men have died to fight my war,
Vengeance be mine to them I swore.
I wear the armor my Father made,
From scales of dragons he had slayed.
And with his sword made in their flames,
I'll add you to his list of names.
As I climb the path of doom,
The sky turns black as a witches womb.
I start to wonder, are you aware,
That one lone man you soul will bare.
You cave does smell of rotten meat,
Upon my face I feel your heat.
I see the truth of legends old,
Upon the floor flows blood in gold.
Teeth as long as a wizards golem,
A heart that's black and oh so solemn.
Eyes glow red with anger strong,
You think this fight will not last long.
"I challenge ye, dragon black!
Will you fight? Or courage lack?
I see your pride is full of you,
You lung, I duck, as if on cue.
It seems like hours we play this game,
And still I've yet to learn your name.
"Oh great beast who took my throne,
By what name should you be known?"
Not a word does the dragon speak,
But stands he tall, like a mountains peak.
Upon his chest are many scars,
More even then the sky hath stars.
Now in his eyes I catch a glimpse,
What I see does make me wince.
Him and I are much the same,
For in our worlds we need no name.
This monsters heart, is torn in two,
Between the days of old and new.
Without a kingdom upon which to feast,
There is no life for such a beast.
And with no beast for me to slay,
This might as well be my last day.
One in the same, both beast and man,
Both just a part of some great plan.
Now knowing the my head I bow,
And in Gods name it is I vow.
Never again such beasts I'll kill,
For now I know it is Gods will.
To my surprise he does the same,
For now my death would bring him shame.
Two brothers we, yet not alike,
I think of this as home I hike.
My life has changed upon this day,
Now in my heart there's no dismay.
I thank the beast I sought to tame,
That Dragon black that had no name.
